We live in SE Tucson near Houghton and Irvington with our dog Rainbow. She's a terrier mix about 50lbs. We aren't big into bars but will go to one on occasion.

Both of us are pretty easy going, love the outdoors and have many varied interests. It's easy to just stay home all the time but we like to be social even if we are both initially somewhat shy. We open up more and are more talkative and engaging once doors are opened.
If anyone wants to jet up here for the next one, mail back and let me know so we can connect.
Suggestion: If you are going to come and drink, please get a room. If you are planning an overnight stay and planning to get a room, do it weeks in advance. We have like 54 rooms available in Jerome and they go quick. There is also the Quality Inn down the hill from Jerome in Cottonwood.
These are the folks who are promoting the petition drive for the "defense of marriage act" in AZ. It will restrict marriage and domestic partnerships to only those between men and women and will exclude same sex couples from legal unions, inheritance rights and insurance benefits.
We cannot stop them but we can 1) drain some of their resources and 2) get on their mailing list so we know what they are doing.
www.securedservers.net/cenazp...orm.htm
Please request 10-20 petitions and say you will circulate them among friends, family and civic groups - or at school, work and church. What a shame none of the people I know will sign them. But what ever they send me I will honestly distribute to my friends, family and civic groups. We need their hate to motivate us to action. And if I have any materials left over I will circulate them to a recycle bin.
Also please fill in their comment area with a request for information or informative literature to distribute. Let them pay to print and mail more to us! This will not stop them, but it may slow them down and it will cost them. Also, they will not push as hard to get their petitions out if they think they have lots of them being filled out.
Please forward this on to other like minded activists but be sure to delete the name of the person who sent this to you when you forward it.

Ya I was nervous but it was so beautiful and awesome and so powerful. We had some great gay sex. Yes I lost my virginity there and I'll never forget it. It changed my life forever.

Hi everyone-

I received this e-mail yesterday. Jeff is from NYC and is looking for advice on whether or not I would recommend Arizona to him as a great place for gays to live. I thought I would post it here so that other people could offer him their opinions as well.

Please reply to HIM, not me, by e-mail at plumberjeff [AT] hotmail [DOT] com

Thanks!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey Scott,

My partner and I are kinda lost... Having lived through 9/11 living just a mile north of Ground Zero, we moved to Florida. Silly us, we were wooed by the sun and price of real estate.

We found an incredible home in Palm Beach County for a fraction of the cost of our apartment in NYC and life seemed good.

But we soon realized we were living in a state run by the Christian Taliban. I am a plumber, and was the brunt of death threats and bigotry on the job all the time. While in NYC I recieved my fair share of tasteless jokes and chides from other plumbers and construction men, the difference is that in NYC its just kidding, these guys hate everyone equally, ya know? But, in Floriduh, they mean it. Scary.

To make things worse, religous neighbors would turn and look away from us, never saying hello, even if we walked the dog. But on top of that, there was the general selfishness of the people as a whole. During last years hurricanes, people were reprehensible! There was kicking and hair pulling in the supermarkets over milk! And this from women dripping in diamonds, driving Lincoln Navigators with the Support our Troops and Jesus Fish stickers on the back.

Meanwhile, Yankees seemed to be willing to help anybody, but the Red Staters would not help anyone but themselves. An example, a young widow on our block in a pretty foofie gated community needed help boarding up her windows before the Hurricane. She has two small kids, and her late husband did not buy enough shutters. With the storm approaching, and all but one window covered, we asked a nearby neighbor who was THROWING out plywood from the addition he was adding to his house, if we could use one piece for our fellow neighbors house. He offered to SELL it to us out of the dumpster.

Well, we had enough. Our mantra was "We miss smart people." And we put our house on the market and moved back to the NYC metro area. But, housing is really expensive and with the price of gas, we are looking at a winter of $1000 a month utilities. Yikes!

My boyfriend hates the cold. I love being close to the city again, but...damn, is it ever expensive! And we make a pretty decent living.

So, after all that... I was just wondering for real, what its like where you live? Do you think a gay plumber and a TV editor could find work, and a decent house? (around $400K) Is there a stable gay community, not just a party crowd, you know...some real people? Do you feel landlocked? I think I might miss the ocean. And, does it feel very Red State there? I have heard conflicting views on Arizona, some say its liberal and others site the militias and gun nuts.

So, if you could spare a minute, I'de like to hear your take on Arizona.

Thanks, and keep up the good work on your blog...Peace all ways, Jeff

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please join Arizona Together at http://www.aztogether.org to help fight this latest attack from the fascist right.

"The Center for Arizona Policy filed a long-awaited "defense of marriage" ballot initiative.

CAP has long been on the warpath against all Arizonans who do not live according to the strict tenants of the Radical Right. The Center for Arizona Policy has lobbied against the modernization of old laws against all unmarried people, straight or gay, living under the same roof. On February 5, 1998, the Arizona Daily Star quoted CAP executive director Len Munsil, in regard to an effort in the Legislature to modernize old Arizona laws prohibiting cohabitation: "It sends the wrong message to repeal that kind of law."

Many Arizonans, straight and gay, working and retired, live together unmarried for financial and other reasons. This proposed amendment would be used to prevent such couples from obtaining any fairness, including policies necessary for medical safety and retirement. Gay and lesbian Arizonans are not being singled out for abuse by this broadly-worded amendment. The Citizens of Arizona, who generally do not favor a government that meddles in their business, will defeat this overreaching by the Radical Right.

If this measure passes, unmarried couples, gay or straight, who rely on partner benefits will be one lawsuit away from losing those benefits--if a judge agrees that providing such benefits creates a status "similar to marriage." Members of the Radical Right, presently conniving on another front to destroy Arizona's independent judicial appointment process, are working to make sure that the judge in that lawsuit agrees with their narrow worldview."
